What we wish we knew back then.
Let us set the scene, you have been parachuted into an unknown land without notice, the people around you are speaking a language that is unfamiliar and confusing, you didn't know you would be here so you weren't able to plan or prepare or buy that helpful Lonely Planet Guide for your journey. You know you have to make it to a destination and need the help of others to get there, but you don't know who they are, who is out there or even how to get hold of them if they are, there seem to be barriers and gated controlled routes everywhere you look. What do you do?
If you are a parent carer you are one of us and you might recognise this description as how it feels when you start out on your SEN and disability journey, it is how some of our community members have described it and it feels very fitting. This is why here at SGPC HQ, and with the help of our amazing community of Parent Carers, we created our Really Useful Guide. It is designed to be just that, Really Useful, to be your sign post and information guide at different stages on your unchartered journey. It contains everything that we wish we were told when we took our first step, one foot in front of the other, moving forwards on our Parent Carer journey. It also has a super handy directory of services and groups at the back.
If you would like a Pdf copy of the guide we can send it to you, you will just need to fill in a small form so we can Keep in Touch, just click below.
We are really proud of it, and want it to be the best it can be for you, so if you have any thoughts of things we need to include or you have ideas for it, let us know, we would love to talk.
